14. Mobile Payment

MOBILE PAYMENT
--------------------------
There are many people getting excited about payment by using a mobile phone.
-------
It is not a feature of a wireless network. The only part for mobile payment was the app on a cellular phone, which connects to a credit card payment processor remotely using data channel [Internet] unless they wanted to use a voice channel. Thus only mobile customers with data channel could use this application.

Probably they would invent a wireless interface between a payment terminal at a retail store to transfer data and payment info with a mobile phone. They could only send credit card info and security code to a payment terminal, which connects to a credit payment center.

They can't update the current wireless standard for this task, only short range wave like infrared should be required. Why? Do you want a listener waiting for your personal data far away?
-> 4G signals could be as far as 100 km
-> Bluetooth signals up to 100 m
-> WiFi signals between 70 m - 250 m
-> Infrared signal 10 ft - 1.6 km depends on the signal intensity. [British develop the first infra-red search and track (IRST) in World War I and detect aircraft at a range of one mile (1.6 km).]
-------

Anyway I'm not sure about security of highly confidential info on a mobile device.

Btw: Do you think it is safer to use a mobile phone for money transactions? A credit card is thin enough, and it's harder to take our credit card identity than storing personal info on a mobile phone with Internet capable? Don't forget the current operating system [OS] on a smart phone was powerful enough for many things. Smart phone has a simple version of a computer OS.
--------

Personally I prefer a credit card.
