11. Fuel-cell cars

Toyota says its fuel-cell vehicle gaining traction in California, USA.
------

>>> Toyota has ambitious plans to sell 30,000 fuel-cell vehicles globally by 2020, ramping up from an expected 2,000 next year. Fuel-cell vehicles are a key component of the company's plans to curb polluting emissions to nearly zero by 2050.<<<

>>> Mirai launched in Japan last December and the company is taking orders in Europe as well as in California. Sales will expand next year to five U.S. states - New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.<<<

>>> Mirai, which means "future" in Japanese, is a four-person sedan that has a range of 300 miles. California has pledged $200 million to help build 100 filling stations over the next decade in the state.<<<

Most of new technologies have been deployed in USA. This is likely that hydro-fuel cell would take off. Its technology would be improved as well as costs down as years gone by. They didn't mention the price.

* The last time, I read, it is sold at US $60,000 for this type of car. This is a high end price.

* A range of 300 miles per fill up is good.

* Perhaps many Canadians could afford a hydro-fuel cell car at around CAD 30,000, which is the price of a basic Camry [I saw a basic Camry price dropped down to $26K]. Probably 90% of Canadians would go for this type of car if prices dropped down to around CAD $18K.

2016-10-26: Honda’s hydrogen-fueled Clarity is an EV with a jaw-dropping driving range

>>> Honda has announced that its upcoming Clarity Fuel Cell sedan will feature an Environmental Protection Agency driving range of 366 miles, which gives it the best rating of any electric vehicle without a combustion engine range extender.<<<

>>> Of course, there are major drawbacks to cars like the Clarity Fuel Cell. The most obvious is the lack of a nationwide fueling infrastructure, which is why Honda’s hydrogen vehicle will only be sold at 12 California dealerships when it arrives at the end of 2016.<<<

>>> As for the vehicle itself, the Clarity Fuel Cell is slated to arrive by year’s end and will start at around $60,000. However, Honda will lease the cars at first, with a monthly rate of less than $500, keeping it right in line with the Toyota Mirai and Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell. Plug-In Hybrid and Electric variants of the Clarity will go on sale in 2017 after the Fuel Cell launches, but unlike its more exclusive siblings, the Plug-In Hybrid will be available in all 50 states.<<<

More players are entering fuel cell cars. However it’s in expensive range for most of Canadians. It’s like an expensive and luxury item car.

Either fuel-cell cars or hydrogen combustion engine car with liquid hydrogen, we could build the same refill stations’ network for those cars. As soon as the price fell to affordable range, national wide network would be built. USA probably goes first.
